Motherlands is project about way of life of plain people in rural areas of Russia. It was shot in small towns and villages of Kaluga, Kostroma and Saint-Petersburg regions. This story shows how modern culture interfere with traditional in everyday life. It’s about plain people, their way of life.
The project started when I decided to find the village where my mother was born. I never been there, because my parents moved to city before I was born. The stories of my mother about her childhood in the village always attracted me. It was like the legendary Arcadia.
“Motherlands” is collection of images and feelings of places, with which I have no formal connections, but have cultural and spiritual kinship, which make me feel like home.
