The Russian North is rarely mentioned even in local Russian news, but it’s a big region with distinct history and culture. Its remoteness is a kind of curse and blessing at the same time.

Industry is less developed and population density is lower than in western part of Russia. A significant part of people still live in rural areas. All of it makes the Russian North less attractive for work migration, but gives it a lot of specific benefits. Most of the population are ethnic Russian, straight descendants of people who settled here in the XI century. Remoteness helps to preserve appearance, dialect and culture, but it also gives the very special feeling of freedom. The journey to the Russian North is a journey to the land, where people treat each other like fellow human beings. They in a good sense live simpler lives and are more sincere and openhearted.
It is an amazing place to spent childhood, among vast forests, crystal clear lakes and rivers, without haste and anxiety. Here, looking at the endless space under the shimmering sun, around you can feel completely free.
