Motherlands is an ongoing project about my heritage. It started as a story about the village where my mother was born and places where she spent her childhood. During my trips across small villages and towns in Kaluga, Kostroma and Leningrad regions I decided to expand this story by pictures of everyday life in rural Russia and so it became a portrait of my motherland. It is also about places and people to whom I am not related, but who share the same culture and traditions and make me feel at home.
